THERAPY THAT DOESN'T WASTE YOUR TIME

Welcome! My name is Allison Thaler. I'm a licensed therapist specializing in helping people get out of their own way so they can live a happier, more fulfilling and authentic life.
I work with clients on a wide range of concerns including generalized anxiety, social anxiety, people pleasing, depression, relationship issues, work related stress, and major life transitions. I also work with clients on building confidence and cultivating both personal and professional growth so they can live the life they want.
My approach to therapy is direct, focused, action-oriented, and designed to create meaningful change. It's for people who want to understand what’s driving their patterns and are ready to do something about it.
It’s built to go straight to the heart of what’s really shaping how you think, feel, and live, not circling endlessly on the surface.
It draws from Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy, which targets the core of what makes us feel what we feel and do what we do.
These core drivers are our underlying beliefs.
In REBT, beliefs are the meanings we assign to events; our assumptions about how people should act, how life must go, and what it means when those expectations aren’t met.
They shape how we interpret our own behavior, the actions of others, and how the world works.
We form these beliefs through experience, and over time they become automatic-so familiar that we stop questioning them.
They feel like part of who we are.
But when these beliefs are rigid, unrealistic, or extreme, they create emotional pain and drive self-defeating patterns that get in the way of the life we want.
The good news—and the reason this therapy is so optimistic—is that much of the suffering we experience comes from these entrenched ways of thinking.
If we cause ourselves distress through how we respond internally, not just from what’s happening outside of us, the possibilities for change are wide open.
My approach goes beyond symptom management or passive insight. It’s about identifying what’s actually driving the problem, thinking differently, and developing new responses that serve you better using an evidence-based framework focused on lasting change.
I am licensed to provide therapy in both New York and New Jersey, and I work exclusively via telehealth. This makes therapy accessible and convenient whether you’re based on the Upper West Side, Upper East Side, Financial District, Brooklyn, Westchester, Jersey City or anywhere in NY and NJ.
I accept Aetna insurance and offer out-of-network services with reimbursement support for other insurance plans.
